GEO and SEO

What is the difference between GEO and SEO?

SEO works on your position in a list of search results. GEO works on being cited in AI-generated answers. Zytet measures GEO: whether the page can be fetched, read and used as a source. The two share a foundation, but a page can rank first on Google and still be invisible in AI answers.

Comparison

What is shared, and what splits

The technical base is shared. The page must respond, it must have a topic, and it must have a sender. The outcome is where they part. SEO wins when your link sits high on a page the user scrolls. GEO wins when your sentence becomes part of the answer the user reads without clicking anything.

That is why a classic SEO report does not close the GEO gap. A page built in a JavaScript framework can rank fine because Google renders it, and still be empty for an AI crawler that never runs the script.

Measurement

What you should measure if you want both

Keep your SEO measurement for rankings and clicks. Add a GEO score for readiness, and a mention measurement for whether the brand is named in the answers. Zytet is that second layer. It does not replace Search Console.

The visibility check calls ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok and Perplexity. We do not sell Google rankings, and we do not claim coverage of an engine the check does not call.

Questions

No. Good SEO strengthens the shared foundation, but it measures a different outcome. We see pages with strong organic visibility that an AI crawler cannot read at all, and a page that cannot be read cannot be cited.
